Self Test

Testing your Tracker is quick and simple and is an essential step to ensure that your device is in proper working order. Bear in mind that if your Tracker is not working as it should, we will be unable to track and recover your vehicle in an emergency situation. This may also adversely affect your motor insurance cover. We recommend that you test your unit at least twice a year or after any significant mechanical, electrical or electronic work done to your vehicle. Similarly, we strongly advise that you test your device if your vehicle has been involved in an accident.

You only have to do it twice a year, and these tests are completely free! It’s as easy as one, two, three...

Step 1

Contact our Call Centre on 0860 60 50 40 (International +27 11 380 0300) to find out if you can Self-Test your particular unit. Certain devices (such as the SkyTrax range as well as the latest generation Tracker Retrieve and Alert units) cannot be tested through Self-Test. In this case, a Tracker agent will advise you further.

If your unit qualifies for a Self-Test, you will be given a Personal Identification Number.

Step 2

Take this number with you and drive your vehicle to any one of 100 Self Test Sites across the country. These are conveniently situated at almost 50 BP Service Stations, as well as a number of fitment centres and Insurance Assessment Centres (IACs).

Step 3

At the Self-Test Site, call the Tracker Self-Test number – 082 237 5000 (standard cell phone rates apply). A prerecorded voice will ask for your PIN number, as well as the unique number of the test site (which will be displayed near the cashier or on the window of the site). Enter the PIN number and then remain at the test site for at least five minutes.

You may then leave and will shortly receive an SMS letting you know whether or not the test was successful. Tracker will also receive a notification for its records. We advise that you only test one vehicle at a time as the test result SMS does not contain any customer or vehicle specific information (for security reasons).

If the test is unsuccessful, please contact Tracker on 0860 60 50 40 (International +27 11 380 0300) during office hours so that we can arrange for a physical inspection of the unit.
