Our Boys Need Your Participation

The future of any society depends on the positive molding of the youth: The youth is undoubtedly the custodians of the future of our country. We have to create an enabling environment in which young people can realise their potential, learn to contribute to a caring society and realise the importance of their contribution to the development of South Africa.

To date, much attention has been paid to girl children, through a number of corporate projects.

But boys also deserve attention. Our young men need to be exposed to initiatives that will help them become responsible young adults, with brighter futures. Currently, prisons are overflowing with young men, incarcerated for a variety of criminal activities. If boys can be reached before they become part of the vicious circle of crime, be introduced to real work environments and exposed to role models with whom they can identify, they may be inspired to reach for greater heights in their personal development.

Businesses can help these young people discover their mission, inspire them to fulfill their potential and motivate them to take control of their futures.

Men in the Making - Icon

Purpose

The primary objective of the project is to help raise responsible young men by introducing them to role models, career guidance, mentoring, guidance and support, life skills development and moral regeneration.

Endorsements

The Gauteng Department of Education has endorsed the initiative, they are very supportive of the project and they see it as contributing to Government’s 2014 goals and objectives.

Metro FM is our media partner in this initiative. Metro FM will participate, communicate and promote the project to the broader public.

Your company’s involvement will go a long way towards exposing the young men to opportunities whilst at the same time promote your industry to future entrants to the workforce.

Project Implementation

Grade 9-12 boys from pre-selected schools, will be invited to spend a day at participating companies’ offices. An attempt will be made to match boys’ interests to the activities of the business.

Depending on the type of business, companies may structure the day in any way deemed to be appropriate, but should ideally include an address by the chief Executive HR Director, an explanation of the business, some exposure to the various positions available at the company, guidance on potential study paths to gain entry to such a business, an address by a career/life skills counselor and some fun activities, involving the staff.

Participating companies will be supplied with project guidelines, disclaimer forms and participation certificate templates for the boys on their successful completion of the day.

An orientation meeting will be held to ensure that participants’ efforts are aligned with the purpose of the project and to address any queries.
